Bromley vs Woking
Vanarama National League
Monday 1st April 2024
15:00 Kick-Off
Woking will look to bounce back quickly as they travel to Bromley on Easter Monday.
Defeat against Eastleigh on Good Friday was a disappointing end to the Cards’ six game unbeaten run at home, and a trip to third placed Bromley will be extremely difficult with Gateshead breathing down the Ravens’ necks for that bye through to the playoff semi finals.
Michael Doyle will have a new signing to add to the squad, whilst he will be hoping that Timi Odusina’s tight hamstring, which forced him off after half an hour on Friday, will be fine for the trip to Hayes Lane.
Opposition Watch
After a rocky start which saw them pick up just three points from their first five games, Bromley never looked back following their first win, keeping them in the top three for most of the season. However, one win across January and February seemingly opened the race for the top three up to others, although it is still well within the Ravens’ hands.
Key to Andy Woodman’s success, as always, has been the goals of Michael Cheek. Serial goalscorer Cheek has 20 in 40 games, and his metronomic scoring rate has been impressive in the fifth tier; since 2015/16 he’s scored at least 13 goals each season in the National League in nine consecutive seasons.
Defensively, Bromley are only behind Southend United in terms of goals conceded (44) and whilst they’ve scored the least number of goals out of anyone in the top seven, they’ve kept six clean sheets in their last seven games in all competitions. The exception was a 2-0 home defeat to York City, and they’ve won just two of their last seven home league games.
Last Time Out
Deja vu as Deji Elerewe’s second half header gave Bromley a 1-0 win at the Laithwaite back in October. Of course, it was his goal to complete the turnaround from 1-0 down in the playoff eliminator last season after Rohan Ince gave Woking the lead.
In 23 meetings between the sides, Woking have won nine, Bromley have won eleven and there have been three draws.
