In preparation for the Southern Region Women’s Football League Chairman’s Cup Final, the Cards took on Sutton United Reserves at the Laithwaite Community Stadium. Three goals on either side of half time saw them ease past the tier-seven opposition in style.

The visitors had their first and pretty much only good chance inside the first five minutes of the game but Amy Jenkins got down quickly in goal to save an initial effort before then getting straight back up to deny a second shot.

If anyone was going to score on the big stage, it was always going to be Sheena Nichol. The midfielder put her side in front 20 minutes in after a brilliant corner from Bianca Underhill found her in the box to fire home.

On the half-hour mark, Ellie Boddy came on to replace Bryony Gibbs, who was one of four players promoted from the Development Team this week.

Five minutes later, it was two thanks to another assist from Bianca. This time she found Gaby Hobday in open play and the former tapped the ball home from close range.
Right before half-time, Woking made it three goals to the good after Sheena played a great ball over the top of the Sutton defence and Kaitlin Howard fought off the ‘keeper to lob it into an empty net. Not just good preparation for the Cup Final, but also for her participation In next week's London Marathon.

Half-time: Woking 3-0 Sutton United

There was just one change at the break, as Charlotte Keenan came on to replace Kaitlin. The Cards were right in the thick of it from the re-start and Gaby nearly doubled her tally when some beautiful skill on the left-hand side allowed her to have an open shot at goal, but it agonisingly missed the target.

In the 57th minute, Laura Mitchell and Sophie Burgess came on for Helen Brown and Louise Curr. A massive shoutout must go to Sophie who only touched down from Peru the night before.

Heading into the final 20 minutes, Gaby put on a show for the spectators with two equally magnificent goals. The first came when Sophie slipped her in down the left and she cut onto her right foot to dink the ball over the goalkeeper. The second was Déjà vu… She recreated the fourth goal in spectacular style by lobbing the ‘keeper on the left to complete her Hat-Trick.

More substitutions followed with Bryony and Louise both getting a final run out in replacement of Hayley Giles and Gaby.

Louise finished off the scoring with a bang and showed why she’d been promoted from the Devs by wrapping her right foot around the ball and watching it fly into the top right-hand corner. What a finish!

Full-time: Woking 6-0 Sutton United

It really couldn’t have gone much better in terms of preparation for the team's next fixture. The Cards are looking to retain their trophy for the second year in a row and will need your support to do so. The game against Beaconsfield Town Ladies will take place at Reading City FC on Sunday 28th, April with an 11:00 kick-off. #COYCards
