All at Woking Football Club were saddened to hear of the death on Friday 19th August of long serving supporter and much loved volunteer, Hazel Long.
Hazel lived in Woking all her life and, as a young girl, started attending Woking games with her father immediately after the War. She was a continuous match day presence, working in the Moaners Corner Tea Bar before switching to run the Club Shop alongside Jennifer Tombs.
The word ‘volunteer’ doesn’t really do justice to the hundreds of hours Hazel invested in her passion – Woking Football Club.
Beyond football, Hazel worked for nearly 40 years in the Ministry of Defence in Whitehall and had the honour of receiving an MBE for her services to the Civil Service and Woking Football Club.
Hazel, a much loved Aunt and Great Aunt will be very much missed by all at the Club and we send our condolences at this sad time to her friends and family.
There will be an opportunity to remember Hazel Long and her much valued part in our club at this Saturday’s Wrexham game.
Hazel’s funeral service will be held at Woking Crematorium at 4pm on Friday 9th September and all are welcome. Donations in memory of Hazel can be made here to Cardinals in the Community and all proceeds will be allocated to the women’s team.
