Woking v Pakistan International XI
5pm on Sunday 1 August 2010
The Cards stage a very interesting game on Sunday evening, when they take on a Pakistan International XI in a match which will be televised in Pakistan – hence the kick-off time. The Pakistani side is composed of players who play abroad and includes several players who’ve been capped for the Pakistani national side. Woking’s Chairman, Shahid Azeem, has been a leading figure in this initiative, working with Touchskysports, who will be televising the match. As well as providing a good test for the Cards as part of their pre-season programme, the game will promote football in Pakistan and highlight the talented players who are already playing abroad.
WOKING
Graham Baker, having discarded all but one (Toby Little) of the various triallists seen in previous friendlies, can now be expected to concentrate on giving increasingly more time on the pitch to those players who are likely to form his starting XI in two weeks’ time. Central defender Alan Inns is back from holiday and seems likely to partner Joe McNerney if the latter has recovered sufficiently from his ankle injury.
PAKISTAN INTERNATIONAL XI
The 18-man squad for this fixture was announced a couple of weeks ago and is made up of international footballers and talented young players from across Britain and Europe.
Six of the squad have international caps for the Pakistan national team: Shabir Khan, Atif Bashir, Kashif Siddiqi, Amjad Iqbal, Adnan Ahmed and Reis Ashraf.
