I spoke to Graham Baker earlier this morning for a quick update before this evening’s game at Weymouth.
On the injury front, the main doubts concern Tom Hutchinson, who’s still suffering with a hamstring problem, and Aswad Thomas, who’s turned an ankle in training. Graham confirmed that he’ll be putting out his strongest side tonight, given the unexpected ‘rest’ which the players enjoyed at the weekend.
Graham expects tonight’s game to be much tougher than the clubs’ respective league positions might suggest. “If you look at Weymouth’s recent results, their defeats have been by narrow margins, just a goal here or there, and of course they did exceptionally well to win at Bishop’s Stortford at the weekend, so we can’t afford to be at all complacent.” Graham went on to say: “The league table demonstrates what I’ve been saying from early on in the season – that everyone’s capable of beating everyone else. Newport County are the only club to have shown real consistency and this has enabled them to stretch out a good lead. The rest are nearly all bunched together, with only eight points or so between them. Any club that can now put a decent run together – and preferably, the sooner the better – will have a good chance of pulling away from the pack too.”
