ASHFORD TOWN (Middx) v WOKING

Surrey Senior Cup Final

7.30pm on Tuesday 5 May 2009 at Imber Court (Metropolitan Police ground)

The curtain comes down tomorrow evening on an awful season for the Cards but perhaps we can at least round it off with a win in the Surrey Senior Cup: a competition in which we haven?t exactly covered ourselves in glory in recent years. For Woking fans there may also be the added ? ghoulish? ? interest of being present at the last outing in the red and white halves of some of this season?s squad.

WOKING

I hope to speak to Graham Baker later today to find out team news but, with loan players presumably having returned to their clubs, we are likely to see a fairly youthful line-up. Our progress so far in the competition has been:

R2 Croydon 0 Woking 2

R3 Woking 4 Leatherhead 0

Q-F Dulwich Hamlet 0 Woking 1

S-F Merstham 0 Woking 2

ASHFORD TOWN (Middx)

The Tangerines, managed by former Aldershot Town favourite, Mark Butler, finished the season in 10th place in the Ryman League Premier Division, with 56 points from 42 games, winning 18, drawing 2 and losing 22. Craig Ross has usually been preferred to veteran Paul Burgess in goal. Skipper Billy Jeffreys and Michael Peacock form a tough central defensive partnership, with Ricardo Joseph and Vinnie O?Sullivan in the full back positions. Ricky Wellard pulls the strings in midfield, with the pacy Anthony Joseph and Warren Harris on the flanks feeding strikers, the rangy Byron Harrison and Scott Harris (brother of Warren).

Ashford?s route to the final has been:

R2 Banstead Athletic 0 Ashford Town (Middx) 5

R3 Ashford Town (Middx) 2 Metropolitan Police 1

Q-F Ashford Town (Middx) 2 Kingstonian 1

S-F Ashford Town (Middx) 4 Epsom and Ewell 1
