Ian joined Woking at the start of the 2018/19 season as a key part of Alan Dowson's coaching staff. After three-and-a-half years in the role, he stepped in as caretaker manager following Dowson's departure in February 2022, and helped lift the club up the league table with 10 points from six games, including three straight wins and four consecutive clean sheets. Following that success, he resumed his previous role, this time working with new manager Darren Sarll following his appointment in March. He was rewarded with a new two-year contract that summer.
Along with Dowson and Martin Tyler, Ian was part of the Woking management team which clinched promotion from the National League South in his first season at the club, defeating Welling United in the end of season promotion final. He also helped mastermind a run to the third round of the FA Cup, where the team famously earned the opportunity to take on Premier League Watford, going down 2-0 at the Laithwaite Community Stadium. Dyer previously coached alongside Dowson and Tyler at Hampton & Richmond Borough, where the trio won promotion from the Isthmian League, before reaching consecutive National League South play-off games, losing in the semi-final in 2017 and the final twelve months later, as the Beavers were beaten on penalties by Braintree Town.
A UEFA ‘A’ License Professional Coach, Dyer has also worked in the Football League with Portsmouth, Barnet and Fulham in a variety of roles, as well as working at the Coerver Performance Academy which specialises in grassroots player development for players aged 7-17.
