Woking v AFC Wimbledon
Pre Season Friendly
15th July 2023
PLEASE NOTE THAT KICK OFF IS AT 12PM.
Woking are back at the Laithwaite Community Stadium for the first time since May, when League Two side AFC Wimbledon visit on Saturday.
Darren Sarll's side were held in Warwickshire by Stratford Town last Saturday, in a game where many first team players played 45 minutes, with Reece Grego-Cox scoring in his first game since early December.
Opposition Watch
The AFC Wimbledon story is well known around the world for the Dons' success from the Combined Counties League up to League One, although they have had a tough couple of years. Relegated from League One in 2021/22, last season was a challenging one for the South West London side, who finished 21st after a barren run of form in 2023.
However, Jonnie Jackson's side have had a successful pre season so far, with former Card Josh Neufville scoring the only goal in a win over Reading, as part of a training camp in Spain. Neufville has been joined by another former Woking loanee, Armani Little, whose successful spell on loan from Forest Green led to the Dons signing him permanently. Other additions have included former Sutton striker Omar Bugiel, as well as promotion winning midfielder Jake Reeves, as WImbledon look to climb up the table.
Last Time Out
Despite AFC Wimbledon spending a large part of their history in non league, the two sides have never met in a league fixture. The last time the Cards and Dons faced each other was on the 27th July 2021, with new signing Tahvon Campbell scoring the only goal in a 1-0 Woking win.
