In the first instalment of a new weekly series, we take a look at the league’s basement club through the lens of a supporter, with Maidstone United fan Joseph Parkhouse answering the questions this week.

Q1) How has your season gone so far in terms of pre-season expectations?
I think most would agree it’s below expectations. Personally I thought a 16-18th finish was on the cards with a possibility to slip into the bottom 4, but I couldn’t have pictured it going this way considering how together the squad was at the end of last season and the quality we had shown before the season began.

Q2) Who are your key players for Cards fans to keep an eye on?
Maidstone’s key players at this moment would probably be Josh Shonibare (winger) who has had a few goals and assists since joining a month or so ago. And Sol Wanjau-Smith (winger/centre forward), a fast and direct player who possesses great on the ball ability.

Q3) What is the Gallagher Stadium experience like in terms of atmosphere, facilities and food?
Facilities wise we have good food by all accounts, great pies and chips, although the results of late have not necessarily improved the fans atmosphere. It’s usually a good welcome and treatment of away fans.

Q4) What are Maidstone United’s aims for next season?
Considering we are likely to go down, I think the goal is to learn from our mistakes and recruit a team for a slightly longer term. In which we can gain promotion again and stay in the NL moving forward.

Q5) How have Maidstone fared against Woking in the past?
Having looked back over our last 5 meetings, Maidstone have come out better with 2 wins and 1 loss, with 2 draws making up the rest. This season however we suffered in our away trip due to the injury to Ryan Sandford, who had been one of the better performing keepers we’d had in recent years. His injury in that game disrupted the team and we lost 3-1 in the end!

Q6) What is your score prediction for Saturday’s game?
I tend to be pretty optimistic considering our league position when it comes to predictions, I think the potential for a point is there. Although a loss would not surprise me, I feel a 1-1 or 2-2 is possible in this fixture.
