Woking vs Aldershot Town
Vanarama National League
Sunday 1st January 2023

Woking will be aiming to make it back-to-back National League wins over local rivals Aldershot Town when the two teams go head-to-head again on New Year’s Day.

The Cards had drawn one and lost eight of their last nine league meetings with the Shots before Monday’s Boxing Day win, which came courtesy of a Rhys Browne penalty and a Corey Jordan own goal, with ex-Woking striker Inih Effiong netting a late consolation, also from the spot. They’re now aiming for their first league double over Aldershot since the 2015/16 season when a 1-0 away win was followed by a 2-1 home win. Coming into this game, Woking remain fourth in the league table, with a 10-point cushion on the play-off places.

Manager Darren Sarll will need to make one enforced change following Dan Moss’ late red card on Boxing Day, his two yellow cards leading to a one game ban, but Sarll has confirmed Kyran Lofthouse has recovered from the illness that ruled him out of the reverse fixture and that he’s likely to deputise at right-back. Peterborough loanee Charlie O’Connell is the other option in the squad. The team is otherwise likely to remain unchanged – Luke Wilkinson, Ricky Korboa, Reece Grego-Cox, and Sid Nelson all remain sidelined through injury, although the manager has suggested Wilkinson and Korboa are closing in on a return to the squad.

Opposition Watch

Like Woking, the Shots league position remains unchanged after Boxing Day, as they sit in 18th place – whilst their cushion to the relegation places remains at six points. Manager Ross McNeilly could welcome back winger Francis Amartey to his squad following the completion of his loan spell at Hampton & Richmond Borough. Fellow forward Tommy Willard remains an injury doubt.
