Woking will be aiming to get back to winning ways on Tuesday evening when they make the trip to Scunthorpe United – the club’s first ever league game at Glanford Park.

The Cards have enjoyed an excellent spell of form, going eight league matches without defeat and 14 games in all competitions without failing to score, but both streaks came to an end on Saturday when York City inflicted just a third home defeat of the season on Woking. They had also reached third in the National League table, but dropped to fourth after the weekend’s defeat, albeit maintaining a nine-point gap on the first team outside the play-off places. The Minstermen are now responsible for two of Woking’s six league defeats this season having won both games 2-0.

Manager Darren Sarll will be hoping the weather doesn’t get in the way of his side’s opportunity to quickly get back on track as they take on bottom of the table Scunthorpe. He’ll have Jim Kellermann available to him again, with the midfielder having sat out Saturday’s game through suspension, whilst Woking fans will also be hoping to see Kyran Lofthouse, who scored a brace in the reverse fixture, and top scorer Reece Grego-Cox back in the squad after they too missed out at the weekend. One player who did return against York was Ricky Korboa after a four-game absence, meaning defenders Luke Wilkinson and Sid Nelson are the only long-term absentees.

Opposition Watch

Scunthorpe have endured a hugely difficult season thus far and are currently on track for an unprecedented third relegation in five years – with their last four league finishes being 23rd (League One), 20th, 22nd, 24th (all League Two). It’s been quite the dramatic fall from grace for the Iron who had previously registered back-to-back play-off finishes in the third tier in 2017 and 2018 and were playing Championship football as recently as 2011.

Keith Hill became the latest Scunthorpe manager to pay the price for their poor form in August after losing five of the club’s first six games of the season, including the 2-0 loss at the Laithwaite Community Stadium, their seventh permanent boss to depart since 2018. Former player Michael Nelson remains in interim charge, but has faired little better, picking up 13 points from his 17 games in charge, with the club currently five points from safety. They also failed to reach the first-round proper of the FA Cup after losing to seventh tier South Shields.

They are currently winless in eight league games, dating back to a win over Gateshead near the end of October, but did end a six-game losing streak with a goalless draw at Yeovil on Saturday. Their home form is marginally better with all three of their wins coming on home soil, having also beaten Yeovil and Dorking. Their top scorer this season is Joe Nuttall with nine, but he joined fellow strugglers Oldham last week, leaving Caolan Lavery, who has netted in two of the last three games, as the main dangerman alongside experienced midfielder Jacob Butterfield.
