Bromley vs Woking
Vanarama National League
Wednesday 9th November 2022

Woking return to National League action on Wednesday evening looking to further enhance their play-off position at fellow top seven challengers Bromley.

After the disappointment of seeing Sunday’s Emirates FA Cup first-round match at home to Oxford United fall foul of the weather – the game rearranged for next Wednesday (16 November) – the Cards will be looking to keep up their recent momentum in the league. Darren Sarll’s side are unbeaten in five in all competitions, winning four, whilst they’ve also taken seven points out of nine from their last three away trips – beating Halifax and Gateshead, and drawing with Southend.

Woking fans will be keeping their fingers crossed that the delay has given more time for injured trio Reece Grego-Cox, Kyran Lofthouse, and Luke Wilkinson to complete their respective recoveries, whilst Rhys Browne could also be back after missing the last two matches. James Daly is available again after suspension saw him miss the Yeovil game last week.

Opposition Watch

Last season’s FA Trophy winners Bromley are in their eighth season in the National League following promotion from the sixth tier in 2015. They’ve never finished lower than 14th and have recorded a top-half finish on five occasions, with a high of seventh in 2021, when they were beaten in the play-offs by eventual winners Hartlepool United. Last season they came tenth.

This season, prior to Tuesday evening’s matches, they are in eighth place, with 25 points from 17 games, two points adrift of the top seven and five points behind the Cards. Their recent form is poor with no win in six in all competitions – two draws and four defeats, including an FA Cup exit to National League North side Hereford. They were also beaten at Maidenhead, Chesterfield, and at home to Barnet. However, they were much-improved last time out, claiming a 1-1 draw away to league leaders Notts County thanks to Michael Cheek’s second-half equaliser.

It was just a third goal of the season for long-time National League dangerman Cheek. This season the key man up front for the Lilywhites has been Adam Marriott, who has netted eight in 10 games, following his summer move from Barnet. Manager Andy Woodman recruited 12 players this summer, including Marriott, having also added Dagenham defender Callum Reynolds and Dartford goalkeeper Reice Charles-Cook. There were also several loan additions from around London, coming from the likes of Arsenal, Crystal Palace, Charlton Athletic, and Leyton Orient.
