York City vs Woking
Vanarama National League
Saturday 8th February 2025
15:00 Kick-Off

Woking’s third straight away trip comes with the long journey up to York to face the Minstermen.

This will be Neal Ardley’s first time facing York since leaving the club last year, and he will have new signing Junior Morias to call upon after he joined on loan from Notts County.

Elsewhere, Dale Gorman will be suspended after accumulating ten yellow cards, opening up a gap in midfield with places hard to come by in a team nine unbeaten following progression in the FA Trophy at Gainsborough last weekend.

Opposition Watch
York City have been the talk of the town after soaring to the top of the table following survival at the latter stages of last season. Despite two defeats in their last five seeing Barnet and Forest Green leapfrog them, City have games in hand on both and would be top should they win them.

One positive for the Cards is that top scorer Ollie Pearce, who has 16 goals this season after arriving from Worthing, will miss out after being sent off last time out, but it won’t get easier for the Woking defence as six figure signing Josh Stones will likely start. Familiar foe Lenell John-Lewis averages a goal every 70 odd minutes from the bench, showing the depth York have up front.

This will be Woking’s toughest test under Ardley yet, who will hope to outfox his former club and keep momentum going with games coming thick and fast. Meanwhile, York were victorious by a 2-1 scoreline last time out, Alex Hunt scoring a last minute penalty despite the Minstermen being reduced to ten men.

Last Time Out
A Lenell John-Lewis penalty cancelled out Dan Moss’s first goal for Woking as the points were shared at the Laithwaite back in October.

York took six points from the Cards in the previous two seasons, with the most notable being a 2-0 win at the LNER Stadium to (eventually) secure their safety.
