Gainsborough Trinity vs Woking
FA Trophy Fifth Round Proper
Saturday 1st February 2025
15:00 Kick-Off

Woking travel to Northern Premier League Premier Division side Gainsborough Trinity hoping to reach the FA Trophy Quarter Finals for the first time since 2021.

Neal Ardley’s side come into this one eight unbeaten, but will no doubt face their toughest test of their trophy run yet against a side who have two step two and one National League scalps to their name.

With Timi Odusina back, Ardley may choose to pair him with Jokubas Mazionis depending on the fitness of Tunji Akinola, whilst other players await news on their fitness ahead of this one.

Opposition Watch
With thanks to Gainsborough fan Will Stanser for his answers.

1. With this trophy run and the run to the second round of the FA Cup, you’re becoming quite the cup side. Has it surprised you?
Yes and no. Yes because we’re used to being out of the cups early over the last few years so it’s great that we’ve had a good cup run this season as makes up for all the bad times in them. Plus I’m not surprised we’ve had a good run because we have a good team.

2. Who are the danger men we should be watching out for?
The whole team! Editor’s note, Declan Howe is top scorer with 11 in the league plus several in the cups including the winner against York.

3. Having beaten York in the last round as well as Rushall and Chester in previous rounds, is there no fear ahead of this one?
We’ve beaten a few teams in leagues above this season in both competitions so definitely no fear for this one, hopefully we just go into it like we have done the other games, think we seem to up our game when we seem to be the underdogs.

4. What can Woking fans expect from their visit to the Kal Group Stadium?
I know it’s segregated but you will all expect a warm welcome from us lot, you’ll be more than welcome in the Blues Club attached to the side of the ground and to mix with us Trinity fans.

5. How do you expect the game to pan out?
Tough one, I can expect it to be a good game especially as it’s a cup game where form goes out the window and it’s the first meeting between the two sides. Fingers crossed we come out on the right side of it.

Did you know?
With this the first ever meeting between the sides, here’s a fact about our hosts on Saturday.

Gainsborough Trinity spent 19 years in the Football League, with their best performance coming in 1904-05 when they came sixth in Division Two. They finished bottom in 1911-12 and were not re-elected, with fellow Lincolnshire side Lincoln City taking their place. They unsuccessfully applied for re-election twice after that.
