Gateshead vs Woking
Vanarama National League
Saturday 14th December 2024
15:00 Kick-Off
Woking are back on the road on Saturday for the longest away trip of the season to Gateshead.
Michael Doyle will hope that his side can take some positives, mainly on the attacking front, from their win on penalties over Havant & Waterlooville on Tuesday night to progress into the next round of the FA Trophy.
He will once again be without Jack Stretton serving his second game of a three game ban for a red card picked up against Yeovil, but Inih Effiong and Frank Vincent could be in line to feature after joining the Cards last week.
Opposition Watch
Gateshead’s achievements over the past two seasons means they’re currently on their third permanent manager since last October, with Mike Williamson and Rob Elliot both at EFL clubs.
The Heed have a philosophy of trust and sticking to what and who they know, which is why it was unsurprising when former defender and part of Williamson’s coaching team Carl Magnay took the reins back in October.
Three wins in eight games since then has represented a somewhat mixed start to Magnay’s tenure, but the Heed are well placed in fourth having received the news that they will be able to play for promotion should they make it into the playoffs.
Striker Owen Oseni, signed from Derby County in the summer, is top scorer with eight to his name thus far, whilst one to watch is versatile midfielder/full back Regan Booty, who remarkably has played every single National League minute this season.

Last Time Out
Gateshead ran out 2-0 winners at the Laithwaite in early August in a game affected by a serious injury to Greg Olley. Greg is still on the mend and we wish him all the best with the rest of his recovery.
Last season, Woking completed the double over the Heed with a 3-1 away win in August 2023 backed up by a thrilling 3-2 win under the lights back in February.
Woking also doubled up against the Heed in the 2022-23 season, meaning that since Gateshead were promoted back to this level in 2022, the Cards have won four of the five fixtures played between these two sides.
