Ebbsfleet United vs Woking
Vanarama National League
Saturday 24th August 2024
15:00 Kick-Off
Woking will look to record back-to-back victories for the first time this season when they travel to the Kuflink Stadium to take on winless Ebbsfleet United.
There was a mix of jubilation and relief at the Laithwaite on Tuesday night as the Cards secured their first win of the season courtesy of Charley Kendall.
Another positive was the likes of Dennon Lewis and Ben Wynter back on the Woking bench, so Michael Doyle has options to rotate ahead of a busy Bank Holiday weekend.
Opposition Watch
Danny Searle did the unthinkable with the Fleet last season. Appointed permanent manager in mid February with his side five points off safety having played a game more than all their rivals, 22 points from their last 13 games saw the Fleet stay up at the expense of their hosts on the last day, Boreham Wood, ready to build over the summer.
It’s fair to say that things haven’t quite gone to plan yet. No team has conceded more than Ebbsfleet’s ten goals in their opening three games, including a 5-1 whopping by Gateshead on opening day. Their first home game last Saturday saw them narrowly defeated by title favourites Barnet, before being beaten 3-2 at Huish Park by Yeovil Town on Tuesday night after coming back from 2-0 down.
Searle recognised over the summer that the Fleet would need to strengthen to build on finishing 20th, although he admittedly had no choice in Billy Clifford and Myles Kenlock joining the Barnet overhaul. Incomings have included no less than five defenders, including Tom Dallison from Colchester, Louis John from Sutton and Lewis Page from Dagenham.
It should come as little surprise that the Fleet look defensively shaky considering all three of those new recruits started at Yeovil, along with Jim Kellermann who joined the Fleet after departing the Cards in the summer.

Last Time Out
Woking were defeated by a first-half Dominic Poleon goal to extend their barren run at the Kuflink Stadium.
Jim Kellermann’s penalty was cancelled out by Ouss Cisse in the reverse fixture back in September 2023 at the Laithwaite.
Across 29 games, Ebbsfleet have won 12, with Woking winning seven and 10 draws between the sides.
