Woking v Gateshead
Vanarama National League
Saturday 17th August 2024
15:00 Kick-Off
Woking return to league action at the Laithwaite Community Stadium on Saturday when they host Gateshead.
Following a narrow defeat at Altrincham, Michael Doyle will be without his captain Dale Gorman, who is serving a one match ban for his sending off at the J Davidson Stadium. However, the likes of Lewis Walker and Ben Wynter should be back in the squad.
Opposition Watch
It’s been a summer of change for the Heed, who were banned from last season’s playoff campaign due to complications with their ground. Rob Elliot’s side lost the prolific Marcus Dinanga to newly promoted Bromley, as well as getting a six-figure fee for Ed Francis from League One Exeter City.
However, Dinanga’s replacement in particular has hit the ground running over pre-season. Owen Oseni, signed from Derby, got off the mark on Saturday in a 5-1 thumping of Ebbsfleet United at the Gateshead International Stadium. Greg Olley collected the match ball after his hat trick; the 28-year-old is the Heed’s longest serving player.
Other impressive signings include former Notts County ‘keeper Tiernan Brooks, experienced midfielder Jacob Butterfield from Scunthorpe United and young midfielder Tyrelle Newton.

Last Time Out
A crazy game ended 3-2 to Woking thanks to goals from Lewis Walker, Charley Kendall and Ricky Korboa, to kickstart a run of four wins in five for the Cards back in February.
The reverse fixture, played in August, saw Woking victorious by a 3-1 margin thanks to goals from Jim Kellermann, Padraig Amond and Zak Bradshaw.
In 16 meetings between the sides, Woking have been victorious 10 times, Gateshead 3 times and there have been 3 draws.
