Monday 3rd May 2021

Woking travel to Essex today to face 11th-placed Dagenham & Redbridge, with the hosts still having a shot at reaching the play-offs this season.

Alan Dowson's side looked like they might get something from Saturday's game against Weymouth, twice taking the lead before the injury-crisis worsened with Ben Gerring limping off and Kane Ferdinand having to partner Moussa Diarra in a makeshift back four. Weymouth took full advantage, drawing level soon after, and then scoring twice more with only a few minutes left on the clock.

The Daggers come into the match off the back of a 2-0 win away to Barnet, which extended their winning run to four games. Paul McCallum and former Woking player Matt Robinson the scorers on Saturday.

Woking - Team News

With Ben Gerring picking up a knock on Saturday, and Jack Cook still having one match left of his suspension to serve, Dowse is down to just having one available centre back for today's match, Moussa Diarra making his last appearance before travelling to France. Leo Hamblin started at left-back and put in another promising display against Weymouth and is likely to keep his place in the side. Joe Leslie and Selim Saied both came off the bench on Saturday and will be hoping for more minutes in the side today, the former could make his first start for the Cards although Malachi Napa is also close to a return to the side and could feature.

Dagenham & Redbridge - The Boss

The Cards will be familiar with Daryl McMahon, who has come up against the Cards both as a player and as a manager. After a brief spell as the club’s player / caretaker manager in November 2014, McMahon’s managerial career started in earnest at Ebbsfleet in April 2015. He took charge of over 150 games for the Kent-based club, winning more than half, and guiding the club to promotion to the National League via the play-offs in 2017. He also reached the National League play-offs the following year, knocking out Aldershot Town on route to a semi-final exit at the hands of Tranmere Rovers. He joined troubled Macclesfield Town in August 2019, resigning in January last year, and joined the Daggers soon after.

One to Watch

Former Woking defender/midfielder Joey Jones will be hoping for a start today against the side he made over 200 appearances for. The 27-year-old came off the bench early on in Saturday's 2-0 victory against Barnet. He left Salford City by mutual consent in November, joining the Daggers the next day on a two-year deal.

Last Time Out

Woking 2-0 Dagenham & Redbridge (13th October 2020)

The Cards picked up their 3rd win from the opening four matches of the season, defeating Dagenham & Redbridge 2-0 at home in October. Goals came from a Jack Cook header and a fine effort from Malachi Napa.

Next Up

Chesterfield are the visitors on Saturday, for Woking's penultimate home match of the season. Dowse's side then make the short trip to title-chasing Sutton United on the Tuesday.
