We ended up with two sets of Dug-out Notes for tomorrow's match, Ian Dyer's notes are in the programme which is available above. We've put Martin Tyler's notes below. As Martin has said, your purchases of streams, programmes and Goldrush tickets all make a real difference to the club.
At the match tomorrow, we will be wishing you were here!
We are able to welcome Maidenhead United’s players and officials, with a special mention for manager Alan Devonshire. I was lucky enough to commentate on “Dev” when he was playing for West Ham and England, a wiry, wily winger, a game-changer at the highest level.
After missing out on our trip to Wrexham because of health problems at their end the boys got back into action on Tuesday with an enterprising and exciting win at Bromley to reach the 5th round of the FA Trophy.
After three matches over Christmas without a goal going behind at Hayes Lane was slightly more of a worry. However Max Kretzschmar showed his talent for producing big moments in big matches with an excellent equaliser and the starting eleven played so well that Dowse made no substitutions
Our goalkeeping coach Matt Winter had thoroughly researched the favoured penalty techniques of most of the Bromley players. Craig Ross made two splendid saves and, apart from one blemish, our own penalties were spot on. Kyran Lofthouse held his nerve to slot in the winner in the shoot-out.
The draw takes us to Sutton United in the next round early next month and with National League games to come soon at both Bromley and Sutton we will play more on plastic than on grass.
We have been lucky in this wet weather, though, to have had grass to train on thanks again to Westfield FC , who can’t play at the moment. They have continued to allow us use of their stadium. It has been a massive help .
Our thanks and farewells to Josh Davison whose loan finished earlier this month. We wish him well at Forest Green where he is working under Charlie Cooper’s Dad, Mark. We have been able to sign Jonté Smith, who was prevented by injury from joining us at the start of the season. Welcome Jonté, our new number nine!
COME ON YOU CARDS!
