Woking Football Club are proud to partner with many fantastic youth and sports clubs in the town; they are the lifeblood of the local community and it's great seeing so many youngsters at Cards’ games. Dowse has been very involved with many of the clubs and Chris Sexton and the Centre of Excellence do a great job in getting them involved.

These clubs are held together by volunteers and, like many organisations, are facing challenges. GPR have organised a creative day on 6th and 7th June to replace their annual tournament and also help local charities. We are aware there are many demands on our finance at the moment but do support the day if you are able.

GPR - Together for charity

Goldsworth Park Rangers FC are a local children’s football club and registered charity. Formed in 1983 this season they had more than 600 boys and girls on their books, before the season was cut short due to the coronavirus.

Unfortunately, they have also had to cancel their end of season tournament. This annual event usually plays host to more than 2,000 kids over the weekend, and last year the guest of honour was our very own Dowse - proudly showing off the play-off trophy.

Not only is it a lot of fun but the tournament is a major fundraiser for GPR and the loss of it puts a hole in their planning for next season. As a replacement they are holding a virtual event - all the boys and girls are taking part in a sponsored back garden penalty shoot out, with each of their teams attempting to score 2020 penalties between them.

As part of this “GPR - together for charity event the money will be split half to the club and the other half split between two other local children’s charities, Shooting Star Children’s Hospice and the Halo Children’s Foundation. The Halo Children's Foundation supports children suffering from bereavement and Shooting Star Chase cares for babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions, and their families.

Club Chairman Lee Swain commented: "All the boys and girls usually have a great time at the tournament which we are always proud to organise. It's a real shame that we can’t put on the event this year and so we are hoping that all the kids enjoy the 2020 penalty shoot out challenge. We are also pleased to be raising money for two deserving children’s charities and hope that everyone gives generously for three excellent causes."

If you are able to donate to these three charities please click on the link below - anything you can spare will be much appreciated by these three well deserving charities in time of need: https://www.virginmoneygiving.com/fund/GPRtournament2020

Dowse runs to support efforts

As well as the above efforts of everyone at GPR, Dowse will be running 20 laps (approx 13 miles) of Goldsworth Park Lake on Saturday to support the GPR's efforts.

Having recovered from a recent hernia op and Covid-19 this will not be an easy task. In true Dowse fashion, he likes to support as many of the local community as possible. Any additional support you can provide through the donation page would be greatly appreciated: https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/Dowse4GPR
