The Cards will look to win three straight league matches for the first time since August on Tuesday evening, as they entertain Barnet at the Laithwaite Community Stadium, in what is manager Alan Dowson’s 100th competitive game in charge.

It’s been a very good week for Woking with consecutive 2-0 victories at home to Maidenhead United and, even more impressively, away to FC Halifax Town – who had sat third in the table at kick-off. Last time out, goals from Max Kretzschmar and Jake Hyde (yes, really), secured all three points for Dowse’s side and took them up to eighth in the table, outside of the play-off places on goal difference alone. It was Woking’s first away win in the league since November and a first away clean sheet since the opening day of the season when Dagenham & Redbridge were beaten by the same scoreline. The Cards will now look to take that momentum into back-to-back home matches against Barnet and Dagenham next Saturday.

Barnet might be five places behind the Cards in 13th but, make no mistake, the Bees are still more than capable of gate-crashing the top seven and, with so many games in hand on those around them, will have a big say on the play-off places either way. A series of postponements, as well as an FA Trophy run, have left Barnet as many as four games behind those around them. They currently have 51 points from 34 games, four points and three games adrift of Woking. Their recent form is not the best, with just one win in five in all competitions, with that coming against bottom of the table Chorley. However, they are consistently proving themselves hard to beat, with just one league defeat since mid-November, a run of 12 matches. Their last two games have both ended in draws against play-off chasing teams, 2-2 at home to Boreham Wood and 1-1 away to Stockport County.

This is a great time to come and watch the Cards in action so please come along if you can and cheer on the team!

Woking Team News

The Cards were without a number of players against Halifax – Alex Wall dislocated his shoulder against Maidenhead and was subsequently sidelined, whilst Matt Jarvis was supporting his wife who had gone into labour shortly before the game. Godfrey Poku and Manny Parry also remain out. That meant a place on the bench for 16-year-old academy striker Jayden Wareham who made his second league appearance for the club as a late substitute.

Dowse could well stick with a winning team which, other than up front, has remained settled for several weeks – although it will be interesting to see if the boss chooses to rotate after the quick turnaround between Saturday and Tuesday.

Barnet Team News

Against Stockport, the Bees started with the experienced Scott Loach in goal, the former Watford, Ipswich Town and more recently Hartlepool United stopper. In defence was former Aldershot Town full-back Cheye Alexander, long-serving academy graduate Elliott Johnson, who at 25 is already approaching 250 games for the club, ex-Peterborough United man Ricardo Santos, plus one-time England C international Dan Sweeney, who played under Dowse at Kingstonian and Hampton.

In midfield was James Dunne, a summer addition from Swindon Town, Harry Taylor, who had a loan spell with the Cards last season, Dan Sparkes, who Woking fans will be familiar with from Braintree, Torquay and Dagenham, alongside Wesley Fonguck, who like Sweeney spent time on loan at Hampton in 2017. Up front was Simeon Akinola, who has 16 goals in all competitions this season, and the dangerous Paul McCallum, on loan from Solihull Moors, who was lethal for Eastleigh last season as he netted 26 league goals. He has 12 so far this campaign.

Last Time Out

Barnet 2-2 Woking – National League (12th October 2019)

There was heartbreak for the Cards as the home side equalised with virtually the last kick of the game, seven minutes into stoppage time, well beyond the allotted time. Ben Gerring had earlier given Woking the lead, which debutant Mark Shelton doubled ten minutes into the second-half; Mauro Vilhete pulled one back before Ephron Mason-Clark grabbed the home side a point. These two teams last met at the Laithwaite back in November 2014 when the game finished 1-1, Mike Cestor scoring at both ends, with Barnet going onto claim promotion to the Football League.
