Surrey Senior Cup 1st Round

After the excitement of Sunday’s Emirates FA Cup tie against Peterborough United, the Cards have quickly to turn their attention to another cup competition as they start their Surrey Senior Cup campaign. No doubt Anthony Limbrick will want to see the club retain this cup but will also see this match as a good opportunity to give game time to players who have been on the fringes of the first team or who are coming back from injury. Why not come down to Kingfield and take a look?

WOKING

The performance against League One opposition at the weekend surely represented one of the best performances from the Cards this season. Dominant in possession and offering a real attacking threat, particularly in the second half, a neutral might well have been forgiven for mistaking which was the league side. The management team will be looking to see that confidence carried forward on Wednesday evening with no complacency shown against a lower league side.

Depending on any new injuries picked up, we can probably expect to see the likes of Sam Mason, Fabio Saraiva, Declan Appau, Lazar Stojsavljevic, Ivan Nsimbi and, if fit, possibly Jason Banton and Bobson Bawling being given a run-out.

The Surrey Senior Cup may not have the allure that it once had but it is a competition with a long and distinguished history, having been inaugurated in the 1882-83 season. Woking have reached the Final on 27 occasions and won the competition 13 times, most recently last season when they beat Merstham 4-0, Garry Hill’s last game in charge of the Club. Only Sutton United (15 wins) and Dulwich Hamlet (16 wins) have won the competition on more occasions.

CHIPSTEAD

The Chips finished in 20th place last season in the (now) Bostik League Division One South but are looking towards mid-table this season. On Saturday they won 3-2 away at Corinthian Casuals. The Chips now sit in 15th place in the table.

Chipstead have yet to play in a Final of the Surrey Senior Cup.
