An overcast day in Lincolnshire saw the Cards deservedly pick up their first away victory in the league since mid-November. The players entered the arena to the Dambusters theme, which was quite ironic given the number of high balls which were hoisted into the swirling wind by the home side.
Woking kicked off with the Cathedral behind them and in general carried more threat than their hosts throughout the ninety minutes.
The visitors were the first to look dangerous as John Goddard was played into the opposition box, but his shot was palmed out to Scott Rendell, who was was offside.
Paul Furman in the home goal had a fine game and was one of the main reasons why Woking failed to record an even more impressive result.
After having much the better of the opening exchanges, the Cards took the lead in the twentieth minute. A long ball into the penalty area caught out the home defence as they waited in vain for an offside flag which never came. The ever-alert Rendell was then on hand to head home for the opening goal.
With the break fast approaching, Josh Payne challenged the home 'keeper for a loose ball. As a result of the collision, the Woking midfielder received treatment for several minutes before returning to hit a sumptuous twenty-five yard free-kick into the top left corner to give the visitors a two-goal cushion at the interval.

The second period consisted mainly of the home side huffing and puffing without causing the visitors' rearguard any major concerns. Indeed, Woking were finding space almost at will and might easily have added to their goal tally had they not been guilty of slight over-elaboration on a couple of occasions when they had carved out promising situations.
As the clock ticked down, it increasingly became clear that it was more a question of whether or not the Cards would add to their two goals rather than Lincoln finding a way back into the match.
Manager Garry Hill was clearly a happy man after the match as he reflected on three excellent points gained. The win pushes the team up to eighth place in the league and still just in the mix for a play-off place. Garry was in bullish mood as he contemplated Tuesday night's trip to Dartford and the possibility of another victory to keep the dream alive.
