Guildford City 0 - 4 Woking
Surrey Youth League
Sunday 4th May 2014
Woking's under 18 side won the Surrey Youth League today, defeating Guildford City four nil in an outstanding performance from the entire squad.
Going into the game Woking trailed City by 3 points and had to win the game by 3 goals to lift the title. The pressure was on the Cards from the start to score and although they had several chances the side were level at half-time. Woking showed great character and strength and although they were under immense pressure there was never any sign of panic or anxiety.
Four minutes into the second period Woking deservedly took the lead through Bayley Mummery, who finished with a great header from Rob Hall’s free-kick. Mummery, a second half substitute, had an outstanding match and helped turn the game, he is a young player with a bright future. Woking then moved into a 2 nil lead when Harri Findlay tapped in from close range.
Woking were now in complete control and showed great character when City were awarded a penalty. Alex Harris, in goal for the Cards, made an excellent save diving low to his left.
Woking added a third from Findlay's free-kick with 10 minutes to go and Jack Collins got Woking’s 4th in added time.
The four nil victory capped off an excellent season in the league and made up for the disappointment of losing the Surrey FA County Cup 2 weeks ago to Kingstonian.
Next Sunday the young Cards have a chance to complete the double when they play Guildford City again in the League Cup final. The match is being played at Imber Court with a 12pm kick-off.
