Surrey FA Under 18s Cup Final
15th April 2014
Â
This game was the first of three matches which could bring a trophy to the Woking U/18 team.
Played on a good surface at Leatherhead, the match was fairly even for much of the first half. Both sides had chances to score with Woking coming the closest in the opening exchanges. A good run saw Jake Bedford get to the byline and put in a dangerous cross. It was met by Jamie Collett whose shot cannoned back of the 'keeper from close range. There was then a long delay whilst the Woking stopper George Burton received treatment for a head injury before he had to be replaced by outfield player Harrison Findlay.
Despite this obvious setback, Woking took the lead four minutes into first half stoppage time through Max Austin. Unfortunately, the Woking youngsters were unable to hang on to their lead in the short period before the break as Kingstonian drew level just a minute later as a swinging free kick was touched in at the far post.
Half-time: Kingstonian U18s 1 Woking U18s 1
Â
A number of changes were made throughout the game as a roll-on, roll-off system was used.
There was plenty of action in the second half. Luke Pearce, who was dangerous throughout for Kingstonian, had a shot blocked by Findlay. Next, it was a Max Austin shot for Woking which dropped on top of the net.
Kingstonian then took the lead for the first time in the match with a goal from a corner. Woking responded positively and had a shot cleared off the line before good work by Bayley Mummery set up Alex Zubaidi but he could not get his shot away.
Despite plenty of pressure in the last twenty minutes, Woking were unable to reduce the deficit in what was a well-contested final.
