Woking 5 Cray Wanderers 3
FA Youth Cup 3rd Qualifying Round
29th October 2013
Woking started on the front foot in their attempt to reach the first round proper of the competition and were ahead after two minutes. Sam O'Brien was set free down the left and his low cross was swept in by Matt Connor.
The visitors were not daunted, however, and slowly worked their way into the game and took a lead into the interval. A free kick on twenty-four minutes found Metaxas in the six yard area and he chested the ball in for the equaliser. The same player then scored from the spot after he was brought down after a flurry of shots was cleared.
Half-time: Woking 1 Cray Wanderers 2
The home side started the second half brightly and took the game to the visitors.
They quickly forced three corners which were all scrambled away. The young Cards were not to be denied, however, and ten minutes into the half they were level. Sam O'Brien was freed down the right and his low cross was firmly placed into the left corner of the net by Matt Connor. Cray were not prepared to lie down though and took the lead again when Astrada hit a firm shot into the roof of the net.
Alex Harris, in the Woking goal, punched a good shot clear as the visitors used their physical advantage to try to put the game out of sight. They were unable to do so, however, and a good spell from Woking saw them on level terms again courtesy of an own goal. Buoyed on by this stroke of good fortune, Woking proceeded to seal the game with goals from Reece Placio and Carlos Anderson.
Their reward in the first round will be a tough trip to Cambridge United next Wednesday.
Woking: Alex Harris, Warren Gibson, Mason Turner (Myles Henry 60), Ed Young, Dan Bedford, Reece Placio, Jay Bradley (Carlos Anderson 62), Matt Connor, Charlie Carter, Jake Gill, Sam O'Brien
Man of the Match: Alex Harris, for constant encouragement of his colleagues.
