Woking v QPR XI
Pre-season friendly
7.45pm on Friday 2 August 2013 (NB Changed date)

The Cards’ final pre-season friendly is against a QPR XI tomorrow (Friday) evening. No doubt the Hoops will field a young, talented side who will test the ability of Garry Hill’s team to gain and retain possession. Don’t forget that there is a fans’ forum this evening.

WOKING

The Cards have had an encouraging pre-season so far, following up a 3-2 defeat away to Staines Town in the first game with wins over Dover Athletic, AFC Bournemouth, a full-strength Gillingham side and, on Tuesday evening, a 4-2 victory at Eastleigh. Goals came from Mark Ricketts, Gavin Williams (penalty), Gez Sole and Ollie Taylor. Kevin Betsy made his first pre-season appearance. No one of course assumes that results in friendly games will necessarily have any bearing on the forthcoming league campaign but there have been encouraging signs that the large measure of continuity in defence and midfield, with very promising additions in Josh Payne and Gavin Williams, will provide a solid foundation even if there is uncertainty still about the make-up of Garry’s forward line. On Tuesday evening, as on Saturday against Bournemouth, John Akinde started up front, with Ollie Taylor coming on in the second half.

QPR XI

QPR are expected to field their Elite Development Squad for this game. Among them may well be Michael Doughty, who had a spell on loan with us.

The EDS’s pre-season games so far have ended as follows:

Hampton and Richmond Borough 0 QPR XI 4
Stevenage 2 QPR XI 0
Staines Town 0 QPR XI 4

The line-up against Staines was:

Lennox (Lumley 46), Magri, Monthe, Laurent (Mitchell 46), Young (Furlong 46), Ben Haim (Brown 59), Balanta (Skapetis 46), Doughty (Carreiro 46), Hitchcock, Ephraim (Petrasso 59), Andrade (Fitzpatrick 59).

Michael Hitchcock, who had a loan spell at Bristol Rovers last season, notched a hat-trick.

The Cards have played QPR XIs in the last two pre-season schedules and both games were attractive to watch. Two years ago the visitors came out on top 4-3 and last year they edged the Cards again, with DJ Campbell scoring two second half goals to make it 2-1 to the Hoops.

ADMISSION PRICES

Adults £8. Concessions £3. Seafare will be open under the main stand, so why not treat yourself to some of their excellent fish and chips.

MATCHDAY PROGRAMME

The Club has prepared a programme, priced at £2, to cover the three home friendly games, including pre-season thoughts from Garry Hill and an interview with Darryl Flahavan.

THE LEAGUE CAMPAIGN

The Cards start their league campaign on Saturday 10 August at home to Lincoln City, with further home games in August against Welling United on Saturday 24 August and Gateshead on Saturday 31 August. Make sure you’ve got all the games at Kingfield firmly in your diary!

Come on, you Cards!
