Each year Woking FC players visit local children’s wards, Christopher’s childrens hospice and people in the community who have significant needs - taking gifts and food hampers . The children love meeting the players and having their photos taken and it is a welcome encouragement and break for parents who are often under real strain. Its great hearing the laughter, seeing the smiles (and sometimes tears) and the nurses also seem pretty keen to meet the players as well! This year the visits will take place on Tuesday 18th December.
The visits do make a real difference; we invite families to attend a game, last year we sat with a family facing the reality of their son being in the last stages of a terminal illness and on another occasion we heard the family cheering as they unpacked the Christmas food hamper. We have donated requested toys and games consoles and provided loads of videos and video games last year for a teenage cancer unit.
How you can help
To make the project successful we aim to raise at least £1000 and the first team squad have already committed a minimum of £200. The staff and directors will all make a contribution but the bulk comes from yourselves, the fans.
- We will have a bucket collection this Saturday at the Stockport game – please give generously. As well as cash in the buckets, cheques can be left in the Club Shop (Payable to The Matrix Trust) and we can arrange Gift Aid for any donation over £30.
- We need a team of bucket collectors for this Saturday so please email me iannicholson@matrixtrust.com or text (07976351891) if you can help – the more the merrier.
- Between now and Christmas donations of food stuffs and toys (new and unused ) can be left in the club shop – as well as any financial donations.
Please help make this another Bumper Christmas Project.
