Kingfield Stadium will host Super Series Lacrosse for a five game series starting on Saturday 7th July. It will be the first time in the history of Women’s Lacrosse that a World lacrosse team will be formed. It will also be the first time since 1985 that a Great British team will play.
The World team will consists of players from Canada, USA, Australia, Japan, Czech Republic, Germany, the Netherlands and Ireland. The most well respected names in women’s lacrosse will be playing and coaching in this tournament. Coaches such as Sue Sofarnos (Melbourne, Australia) and Vic Alexander (Surrey, England). Mrs Sofarnos was assistant coach during Australia’s win in 2005 and Head coach in 2009. Mrs Alexander is a former national team member (England) that currently coaches St. Catherines school in Bramley, Surrey. The most recognisable name playing in the World Team is Taylor Thorton who is one of the top players in the world and certainly in the NCAA.
Travis Taylor, Manager of Super Series Lacrosse explained: “The event has always been to increase international competition for elite lacrosse players and adding a new and exciting event to the international lacrosse scene. We believe that many of the world’s top lacrosse players only get a limited amount of competition once leaving the university level and we hope to change that. For lacrosse to grow in Great Britain and the rest of the world we need to show potential supporters of lacrosse the aspects that all of us have cherished about our sport. Respect for each other and our sport, the athleticism of the players, and camaraderie of the lacrosse community around the world are all aspects that will be on show during this event and we are proud to showcase this to our potential supporters.
