The Cards’ play-off rivals enjoyed mixed fortunes yesterday. Chelmsford City gained a surprise – and from Woking’s point of view, very unwelcome – 3-1 victory at Ebbsfleet United, whilst Dover Athletic won 3-0 at home to Basingstoke Town. The wins lifted both Chelmsford and Dover above the Cards, who have now dropped to 7th place, two points behind both clubs but with today’s game in hand.
There was better news from the games involving Eastleigh and Welling United. Eastleigh lost 2-1 at Boreham Wood and their chances of gaining a play-off place now look slim, whilst Welling United could only draw 1-1 at home to Thurrock.
The full results of the play-off contenders were:
Boreham Wood 2 Eastleigh 1
Dover Athletic 3 Basingstoke Town 0
Ebbfleet United 1 Chelmsford City 3
Hampton and Richmond 0 Braintree Town 1
Welling United 1 Thurrock 1
Braintree’s win over Hampton and Richmond means that they need only one win from their two remaining games to be sure of pipping Farnborough for the BSS Championship. Equally, Farnborough have to beat Woking this afternoon to retain any chance of overtaking Braintree.
The table looks like this now:
Played GD Points
1. Braintree Town 40 44 86
2. Farnborough 39 37 79
3. Ebbsfleet United 40 24 76
4. Welling United 40 32 72
5. Dover Athletic 40 30 71
6. Chelmsford City 40 28 71
7. Woking 39 18 69
8. Eastleigh 40 18 66
