FA Cup 3rd Qualifying Round Replay
12 October 2010

Woking went into this game on the back of two games where they had not been at their best. The last time that the Cards went out at this stage was 1988 at Newcastle Blue Star. Having saved themselves at the death on Saturday, home fans were looking for an improved performance. They certainly got that as the Cards attacked from the start and were much more lively than of late.

The saviour on Saturday, Joe McNerney, was back in defence and gave the visitors few chances to get into the game. Ricky Anane and Moses Ademola (pictured right) combined well down the right allowing the latter to get a number of telling crosses in from the by-line. Unfortunately Dave Gilroy and Andy Forbes were getting little joy from Brentwood’s well organised defence; they defended in numbers and were quick to block those shots that were on target.

The corner count rose by the minute but no clear-cut chances came. That was until a good move down the right hand side saw Francis Quarm burst into the box. His goal bound shot had the Blues keeper Hall well beaten but the ball rebounded off the inside of the post and away to safety.

The visitors were not able to penetrate the home defence too often and when they did Andy Little was always on hand to snuff out the danger.

Woking were not as sharp in the second half resorting more to the long ball. Ademola continued to look dangerous operating down the right but, as in the first half, his crosses were not finding anyone in the danger area. As in the first half Brentwood were finding it hard to trouble the Woking defence. Their main outlet was Dee Okojie who managed to get beyond Aswad Thomas a couple of times but the Cards were able to clear the danger with few alarms.

Graham Baker took off both Gilroy and Forbes after sixty-four minutes replacing them with Ola Sogbanmu and Craig Faulconbridge. Craig’s first contribution was to pick up a yellow card.

Going into the last ten minutes with the game still level, another excellent Ademola cross was missed by Sogbanmu. Faulconbridge threw himself at the ball, managed to get his head on it but keeper Hall made a good save.

Finally the deadlock was broken. Yet another cross from man of the match Ademola was fired in from the right and at last Ola Sogbanmu was on hand to volley the ball home from close range. The final six minutes and the four added did not produce any dramas. Woking had at last managed to see off their Ryman League rivals.

Woking now move on to the 4th Qualifying Round where they will face Eastleigh on Saturday 23rd October at Kingfield.
