Ryman Youth League
11th March 2010
A narrow victory for the young Cards yesterday evening in a close-fought match with AFC Wimbledon.
AFC Wimbledon had a good chance to take the lead in the first half, with Ali Turpie having to make an excellent stop from point-blank range, before Wimbledon put the rebound wide of goal.
With half-time approaching, Chris Richards managed to put Woking ahead, finding the back of the net at close range from a Jack Blatchford corner.
Half-Time: Woking 1 - 0 AFC Wimbledon
In the second-half Wimbledon upped the pressure trying to find an equaliser, but the strong Woking back-line dealt with most attacks with ease.
There was a scare half way through for Woking, when one of the Wimbledon forwards found himself clean through on goal, unfortunately for him Turpie was quick off his line to rush out nearly 30 yards to put in a great tackle.
Wimbledon again went close, with Danny Carter diving at the ball 6 yards out from goal, his header just went over the crossbar.
A minute into injury-time Turpie caught the ball from a Wimbledon corner, throwing the ball out quickly to left-winger Rob Carr, who had been threatening all game with his pace, Carr raced up the wing to put in a cross which was deflected wide for a Woking corner.
