Ash United v Woking
Surrey Senior Cup 3rd Round
7.30pm on Tuesday 10 January 2012

The Cards travel to Ash United on Tuesday evening in the Third Round of the Surrey Senior Cup. It seems likely that Garry will play a relatively strong side with the aim of regaining some form after Saturday’s very disappointing performance against Staines Town. The winners of this tie will be at home to Walton Casuals or Ashford Town (Middx) in the next round.

WOKING

In addition to long-term absentee Mark Ricketts, the Cards were also without Moses Ademola and Dale Binns on Saturday, whilst Alan Inns came on as a substitute with a broken bone in his wrist and Jay Davies played in spite of not having recovered fully from tonsillitis.

In the previous round the Cards beat Merstham 2-0.

ASH UNITED

Ash United lie in mid-table in the Combined Counties League, with nine wins, four draws and thirteen defeats, having scored 46 goals and conceded 52. They come into Tuesday’s game on the back of a 2-0 defeat at Raynes Park Vale on Saturday. Prior to that Ash had won four games in a row, including a 6-1 thrashing of Sandhurst Town, with Karl Dallaway grabbing a hat-trick, and a 3-0 away win over Farnham Town, with Liam Ralls notching a hat-trick.

Ash beat Crystal Palace 4-1 in the previous round.

Woking progressed to the Quarter-Finals of the Surrey Senior Cup with a 3 - 0 victory at Ash United on Tuesday evening, thanks to goals from Giuseppe Sole, Paris Cowan-Hall, and Jack King.

The Cards named a strong line-up with just three changes to the team which faced Staines Town three days earlier. Andy Little started in goal, King moved into defence to partner Joe McNerney, with Adam Doyle moving over to left back. Josh Griffiths (pictured) came in at right midfield, and Wayne Gray partnered Paris Cowan-Hall up front in a 4-4-2 formation.

It was clear from the off that the hosts were going to be spending a lot of time defending, with early chances falling to Cowan-Hall, Jay Davies, Griffiths and Doyle. Ash held on, though, and it was to their credit that it took until just after the half-hour mark for Woking to take the lead. Davies was fouled 25 yards from goal, and up stepped Giuseppe Sole to score with one of his trademark free kicks that we all know he's capable of.

Half-Time: Ash United 0 Woking 1

Three minutes into the 2nd half and Woking doubled their lead, Griffiths crossing from the right, Gray got a flick on it, and Cowan-Hall got a touch just before it crossed the line.

It wasn't long before another goal was added, Griffiths involved again, beating his man before putting in a deep cross to Doyle, and King volleyed home with his left foot to make it 3 - 0 to the Cards.

Woking will now go on to face Ashford Town (Middlesex) in the Quarter Finals. The date for this tie has yet to be confirmed.
