Match Reports and Team Details – Week commencing 24th November 2025

Monday 24th November

Alton 3 – 2 Westfield (represented by Woking U17): Allied Counties League – West Division

Alton FC, Anstey Park

Report from Ian Tilley

A number of changes due to illness and injury saw three prospects from the under 16s move up for their first experience of this level, in what would be a difficult game played in a bitterly cold wind.

Westfield had already seen one Bailey shot go narrowly wide after a fine Callow pass when they took the lead after just four minutes. The bounce on a ball forward favoured Callow and he took the opportunity to finish well from the edge of the penalty area with a low, hard drive to ‘keeper Balfour’s left.

Good play from debutant George Ellis led to Callow forcing a good save from Balfour, but Westfield were soon to learn the importance of making good decisions under pressure. Alton equalised on 13 minutes, Roberts had already put a header wide when Beatie took the ball off a hesitant Westfield defence and Fascone scored from the ensuing goalmouth scramble.

The Alton bench were surprised not to get a penalty on 25 minutes for a challenge in the box, and as the hosts pressed forwards Westfield were starting to find it difficult to compete equally. They looked as if they would see out the half, but the flight of a Beatie free kick beat Collins and the hosts went to the break ahead.

Half-time: Alton 2 – 1 Westfield

Jack Donkin and Aaryan Malhotra were introduced for their debuts as Westfield sought to refresh for the second-half but the games scrappy nature continued. Collins tipped over a long-range effort from Brine and saved a Robert’s free kick to prevent Alton increasing their lead.

However, Malhotra had a free kick saved on the hour mark, and three minutes later Westfield were level. Collins and Donkin chose the right situation to pass out of defence before Wells played a long, diagonal pass which Ellis controlled well before striking his shot firmly beyond the ‘keeper.

Unfortunately, Alton reclaimed the lead within three minutes, a scramble when Westfield had opportunity to clear ended with Syskes claiming the goal, although the final deflection looked to have come off Collins.

Westfield responded well, Salman and Callow did very well to play the ball towards Bailey in a threatening position, but the covering defender made a crucial interception before he could shoot. Then Salman’s shot from 25 yards hit the bar, the ‘keeper well beaten.

As time ran out a move started by Wells led to both Callow and Ellis seeing shots saved, but Balfour dealt well with these chances and the remaining set pieces which came his way.

A first blemish on Westfield’s league form this season, which they will hope to bounce back from when they face bottom side Knaphill at home on Monday evening.

Westfield: Callum Collins, Caleb Trickett, Adriel Gondwe (Jack Donkin 46), Byron O’Donnell, Daejharn Wells, Nathaniel Flemming (Aaryan Malhotra 46), Finlay Salman ©, George Ellis, Ben Bailey, Jack Pepper (Zack McColl-Eljanfali 67), Joe Callow. Unused substitute: Josh Allan (GK).

Goals: Callow 4, Ellis 63.

Wednesday 26th November

Woking U18 8 – 1 Alvechurch Foundation: National League U19 Alliance League Cup – Second Round

Woking College, Rydens Way

Report from Holly Porter

After a high-scoring first-round clash, which saw Woking victorious in a 6-1 win against Dartford, the second round of the National League Alliance Cup awaited the u18s.

Much like the previous fixture, it was a goal-heavy game that unfolded, with academy coach George Doré stating, “I can’t really ask for anything more” following his side’s victory. “To win in the cup like that is really pleasing.”

Woking started the game with some decent moves forward, including dangerous deliveries from Tricker on the right wing and a free-kick from Ledbury, which looked to threaten the defence, but nothing troubled the Alvechurch no.1 until Bushby’s opener.

This came in the 14th minute, with an effort that seemed like a cross at first but drifted excellently into the top corner to open the scoring.

Woking’s second shortly followed, this time with Tricker etching his name into the scoresheet. He brought the ball down on the halfway line and drove forward, creating some space for himself on the edge of the box. He then took his effort flawlessly and curled the ball into the bottom left corner to strengthen the lead in the 20th minute.

Ledbury got his first of the afternoon six minutes later, as he slotted home from close range to make it three. Tricker then found himself through on goal in the 28th minute, with the Alvechurch defence trailing behind him. His effort, however, was met by a strong glove in the Alvechurch net, with the keeper doing well to collect the subsequent loose ball.

Another strong effort for the hosts saw Boyle win the ball in the middle of the park, and he sent Mathieson through on goal. His effort searched for the far bottom corner but ultimately dragged wide in the 41st minute.

Woking did get another before the break, Mathieson with a fine through ball setting up Ledbury to calmly slot home from the centre of the box with the final touch of the half.

Half-time: Woking 4 – 0 Alvechurch

With a comfortable four-goal cushion, the half-time message from Doré was to “make sure we get the next goal.” This was not to be for the Cards, with Alvechurch getting one back within five minutes of the restart. A free-kick from the right edge of the box was headed in at the back post in the only goal of the affair for the visitors.

It was then almost a second for Alvechurch, with a ball across the face of goal taking a deflection off the Woking defence, but with some fortune, it dragged wide.

Doré praised his players for getting “straight back to business” after the minor setback, with a couple of strong chances before the scoring resumed for the Cards. Firstly, Bushby’s corner was narrowly deflected over the crossbar in the 57th minute. Then, moments later, Mathieson found himself through on goal, but could not beat the Alvechurch keeper, who saved with his feet.

It was Mathieson who netted the fifth of the affair, after Tricker’s initial shot was pushed back out by the keeper, allowing Mathieson to fire home the follow-up in the 69th minute.

A 70th-minute second yellow for Alvechurch saw them reduced to ten men, further increasing Woking’s dominance as the game drew to a close. Ledbury completed his hat-trick in the 74th minute, with an effort from a tight angle which beat the visiting keeper, making the most of Tricker’s astute pass.

It was then a double from substitute Rhioui that concluded the scoring. His first came in the 83rd minute, after great work from Mattingley in midfield had released Kigozi to race to the byline and pull the ball back for Rhioui who arrived late in the box and tapped home from the goalmouth. His second fell just two minutes later, as he fired emphatically across the goal and into the far corner to round off the scoring.

“We want to set our targets to get as far as we can and have a really good cup run. We’ve definitely got the quality in the squad here for that to happen”, reflected Doré. “It’s now down to the players to go and perform like they did today, consistently going forward in the next round”.

Woking: James Moore, Louie Boyle, Jack Owen, George Mattingley, Thomas Ward, Joel Jennison-Leppa (Kai Baverstock 77’), Jack Tricker (Roshan Kigozi 77’), Frankie Bushby © (Joe Scanlon 86’), Calum Mathieson, Will Ledbury, Timothy Francis (Zack Rhioui 70’). Unused substitute: Harry MacFadyen (GK).

Goals: Bushby 14, Tricker 20, Ledbury 26, 45, 74, Mathieson 69, Rhioui 83, 85.

Thursday 27th November

Woking U18 7 – 0 Harrow Borough: Suburban Football League – Premier Division

Knaphill FC, Redding Way

Report from Ian Tilley

With illness and injury an ongoing theme for the week, the second years were joined by six members of the EDS for this fixture.

The opening twenty minutes were end-to-end. Both Christophers and Page winning corners as Woking sought an early advantage, whilst Lacey was called on to display his handling and clearing skills, and McGibbon provided good cover when Harrow looked to have broken through.

Harrow came closest on ten minutes, putting a clear opportunity over the bar, and they were soon to regret their profligacy. A Woking free-kick on 17 minutes was headed wide, but this was a brief respite for the visitors.

On 21 minutes Vally won a free-kick about five yards outside the area, which Malhotra easily bent around the defensive wall and inside the ‘keeper’s left-hand post. With Woking now overlapping well on both flanks, Malhotra set up Travin, who saw his shot saved, and the second came on 25 minutes. Malhotra’s corner, from the left, deceiving the ‘keeper and going straight into the net.

With a good variation of play, Lacey’s passes to Christophers and Malhotra in central midfield helped keep the Cards in control, and the third goal came just after the half-hour mark. Malhotra’s ball into the area from a free-kick caused a scramble, with Akinwalere and Rangel keeping the chance alive until Page was able to hook the ball home from six yards.

Lacey did have to make a good save down to his left to maintain the three goal advantage, before the fourth goal came on 43 minutes. Vally was the architect, then Travin made ground well, and played a one-two with Page, whose lay back teed up Travin to finish low into the corner from just inside the penalty area.

If that didn’t ensure the game was over as a contest, then a fine fifth before the break certainly did. Frawley played the ball to Akinwalere who made ground before playing a superb reverse pass to the now overlapping Frawley, who got to the byline and pulled the ball back for Vally to finish emphatically into the corner from ten yards.

Half-time: Woking 5 – 0 Harrow Borough

Akinwalere made it six within three minutes of the restart, his cross/shot from wide on the left flying into the top corner. However, the half would turn out to be more even than one might have anticipated.

Woking did have some excellent passing moves and continued to create opportunities without adding to the scoreline. Whilst Lacey was called on to make an excellent double-save on 71 minutes.

As the game drew to a close it was Woking on the defensive, Greenstreet well positioned to clear one chance off the line, Davies battling hard, and Lacey coming out to make another good save.

With the game in added time, Woking added a seventh, Christophers and Hayati combining to set up Page for a shot from the edge of the penalty area which the ‘keeper’s outstretched leg could not prevent from crossing the line.

This has been a good week for Woking in the Suburban League, this victory following the win at Slough Town, and the awarding of the three points for a Home-Walkover after the abandonment of the St Albans City fixture earlier in the season. Whilst Sheerwater’s defeat at Hungerford Town means their lead at the top of the table is reduced to five points.

Woking: Jools Lacey, Jack McGibbon (Dillan Davies 63), Chris Rangel, Freddie Greenstreet, Joe Frawley, Leo Christophers ©, Amario Malhotra (Yousef Mezenner 75), Denis Travin (Louie Boyle 68), Hayden Vally (Kooshan Hayati 72), Seyi Akinwalere, Jalil Page. Unused substitute: James Moore (GK).

Goals: Malhotra 21, 25, Page 33, 90+1, Travin 43, Vally 45+1, Akinwalere 48.
