Woking 1-2 Wealdstone
Enterprise National League
19th August 2025
Neal Ardley responded to Saturday’s defeat at Scunthorpe with several changes. In came Tunji Akinola, Jack Turner and Matt Ward for Timmy Akinola, Aiden O’Brien and Aaron Drewe, with Turner making his first Woking start.
Just the three ex Woking players made the trip as part of the Stones squad, with Jack Cook
captaining the side alongside Max Kretzschmar, whilst Moussa Diarra made the bench.
A dour start from the Cards saw them fail to trouble their hosts for much of the first half, with not even a penalty box venture to speak of before a foul on Deon Woodman saw referee Isaac Searle point to the spot inside 13 minutes.
Kretzschmar, as he does so well, slotted in the opposite corner to the diving Ross to give the visitors an early lead.
After 20 minutes, Woking finally threatened when a fantastic through ball from Turner saw Harry Beautyman’s square pass just evade Olly Sanderson, before a golden opportunity five minutes later.
Sloppy play from the visitors saw Turner win the ball and drive towards goal, but his effort was weak and Baptiste gathered.
Ross then had to save well from Sean Adarkwa down to his left, before a scare for the visitors just before half time was evaded despite Tunji Akinola beating Dante Baptiste to the ball, as his header went wide.
Half time: Woking 0-1 Wealdstone
After a slow start to the half, Woking had parity when Sanderson got on the end of a Ward cross after good work from Beautyman inside the box to nod home his first for the Cards.
This started a good period of play for Woking, who nearly took the lead when Jamie Andrews’ diving header was well saved by Dante Baptiste.
However, a break in play rocked the Cards’ momentum and opened up the game, with both sides going close in the last twenty minutes.
Matt Ward was denied by a brilliant block from Deon Woodman as he aimed to fire into the near post, before Ross was called into action to save a header low down after the Cards defence went to sleep.
There would be one more twist in the game however, as failure to clear the ball led to substitute Nathan Tshikuna firing into the bottom corner on the volley with just six minutes left.
That would prove to be it for the action, as despite sub Josh Osude forcing a save from Baptiste, Wealdstone would make it three wins from three and leave the Cards pointless.
A tough bank holiday weekend coming up with a trip to Hartlepool and the visit of York.
