Scunthorpe United vs Woking
Enterprise National League
Saturday 16th August 2025
15:00 Kick-Off
Woking’s second league game of the season sees the Cards make their second ever trip to Glanford Park to take on newly promoted Scunthorpe United.
After back-to-back defeats in league and National League Cup, Neal Ardley’s side will want to set out their stool at a ground where the Iron’s last league game was a thrilling promotion final win against Chester. There will be a sense of optimism at Glanford Park, and with Woking yet to score in their first two, they will see this as an opportunity to take six points from their first two games.
Ardley is in the process of working out his best eleven, but the likes of Tariq Hinds and Inih Effiong will be hoping for a start after they were reduced to cameos last weekend. Sam Ashford was sent off in midweek so might have done his chances of a league start some damage, whilst Aiden O’Brien and Chin Okoli both were rested in the cup so will be fit and raring to go.
Opposition Watch
Scunthorpe United had little chance of promotion as champions on the final day, and managed to sneak what could have been a crucial second placed finish and home advantage for the playoffs over Kidderminster Harriers. As it turned out, they played and defeated fourth placed Chester after extra time in a pulsating match at a full Glanford Park (Attis Arena) to end two seasons of misery and take a step closer to a return to the EFL.
Make no mistake, Scunthorpe will not just settle for survival as a newly promoted team despite not changing their core, with the additions of Declan Howe, who spearheaded Gainsborough to cup and trophy runs last year where they were of course knocked out by the Cards, and Oli Ewing, who netted a superb free kick at Tamworth last weekend, going under the radar as far as the talking points are concerned.
Less than three years on since that fateful day where Woking took all three points and the game was marred by pitch invasions begging vacant owner Peter Swann to sell as the club lingered towards the bottom of the league, Scunthorpe are on their way back.

One to Watch
Callum Roberts dazzled at Notts County, and it has been in Lincolnshire where he has rejuvenated his career. 20 goals last season made him a must keep this summer, and with the forward committing to the club, he’s going to be a key man for the Cards to stop if they are to take anything back down south.
