Welling United vs Woking
Pre-Season Friendly
Saturday 22nd July 2023

Woking will take on a familiar opponent on Saturday with a visit to Park View Road to take on National League South side Welling United. The Wings need no introduction to many Cards fans, having been a tricky fixture for numerous years at both National League South and National League level, but focus will very much be on Darren Sarll's men getting more minutes in the tank, with the visit to Kidderminster on opening day just two weeks after this fixture.

With the news that Manny Oyeleke, trialist against Stratford Town and AFC Wimbledon, has officially signed for the Cards, Woking fans will hope to see him feature alongside other signings such as Robbie Willmott, who overcame a slight knock which forced him to miss the trip to Warwickshire, but managed 45 minutes against the Dons last time out. The only absentee will again be Jermaine Anderson, who is still on the road to recovery following his injury that saw him sidelined from early February.

Opposition Watch

Welling United finished 16th in the National League South last season, and have seen significant change this season, with managing Warren Feeney leaving the club to manage Glentoran in his native Northern Ireland. His replacement is former Eastbourne Borough manager Danny Bloor, who was shockingly let go by the Sussex based side, despite guiding them to 6th and 8th placed finishes in the last two seasons.

New arrivals at the club include TJ Bramble, who played 34 times for Dover Athletic in the National League, experienced keeper Lee Worgan, known for his successful spell at Maidstone United, and Dom Odusanya, a key part of Maidstone's 2021/22 National League South success.

However, the Wings have suffered three pre season defeats in three games, with a 4-0 loss at home to Charlton Athletic, a 2-1 loss away to Cray Wanderers and a 3-1 loss on Tuesday night at home to Dulwich Hamlet.

Last Time Out

Woking fans won't need reminding of the last meeting between the sides in May 2019, as the Cards edged out their opponents in a nail biting National League South Play-Off Final thanks to an Armani Little free kick on the stroke of half time, with a 1-0 win in front of a packed Laithwaite Community Stadium enough to secure an immediate return to the National League.
