Woking vs Boreham Wood
Vanarama National League
Saturday 11th February 2023

Woking will be looking to secure a third successive National League victory over Boreham Wood when they welcome the play-off chasing side to the Laithwaite Community Stadium on Saturday.

The Cards had failed to beat Boreham Wood in ten successive league matches before manager Darren Sarll ended that streak in his first game in charge of the club last April. He backed that up by masterminding another 1-0 win at Meadow Park in November and he’ll now be looking to secure his first home win over Luke Garrard’s side. His team come into the game off the back of one of their strongest performances of the season, one which saw them defeat Chesterfield 3-1 away from home, thanks to first-half goals from Padraig Amond, James Daly, and Jim Kellermann.

Woking made two changes in that game from the team beaten 1-0 at Eastleigh last weekend, bringing Scott Cuthbert and James Daly back into the starting line-up, in place of Joe McNerney and Jake Hessenthaler. The latter didn’t have to wait long to get into the action however, coming on inside 15 minutes to replace an injured Jermaine Anderson. The manager is likely to rotate his squad again this weekend as the games come thick and fast throughout February.

Opposition Watch

Boreham Wood are currently in seventh place, occupying the final play-off spot, with 42 points from 27 games. They have games in hand on all of the teams below them, as well as a single game in hand on sixth place Southend, who are two points better off. They have been stronger away from him this year, capturing 25 of their points on the road, compared to 17 at home.

Their recent form is also good with 11 points from their last six league games, including just one defeat. Recent outings have seen them pick up draws at home to Barnet and away to Notts County, as well as wins at Altrincham, Aldershot, and at home to Chesterfield. They also took League One side Accrington Stanley to an FA Cup replay, eventually losing 1-0 after extra time. Their last league defeat was 2-1 at Barnet on Boxing Day. They have one of the best defensive records in the league – their tally of 25 conceded is only bettered by Wrexham, although their 32 scored is less than three of the bottom four.

Their squad includes several ex-Woking players, most notably former captain Mark Ricketts, plus Bruno Andrade, Dennon Lewis, and Chris Bush. Their top scorer is Lee Ndlovu with nine.
