Dagenham & Redbridge vs Woking
Vanarama National League
Saturday 7th January 2023

Woking will be aiming to extend their winning run to three straight games on Saturday when they travel to Dagenham & Redbridge in National League action.

The Cards go into the game after completing an iconic double over local rivals Aldershot Town, with a 4-1 home win last Sunday following on from the 2-1 away victory on Boxing Day, only the second time this century that Woking have done the league double over the Shots and the first such occasion since the 2015/16 season. A Rhys Browne double, plus goals from Jim Kellermann and Padraig Amond were the difference, with the result keeping Darren Sarll’s side in fourth place, with an 11-point cushion on the play-off places.

There could be a number of changes to the Cards’ line-up this weekend – full-back Dan Moss returns from his one-match suspension after his red card, which came courtesy of two yellows, in the Boxing Day game, whilst Jermaine Anderson begins his three-match ban for his straight red card last time out. Woking have also welcomed two new loan signings – striker Marcus Dackers from League Two side Salford City and ex-Card Solomon Nwabuokei, who returns on loan from fellow EFL side Barrow. Both players are eligible to feature this weekend. Luke Wilkinson, Sid Nelson, Ricky Korboa, and Reece Grego-Cox remain sidelined through injury.

Opposition Watch

Dagenham are currently in eighth place in the National League table with 35 points from 22 games and they sit outside of the play-off places on goal difference alone. They have also played less games than anyone in the division so based on points-per-game they’re sixth. Their home record is particularly impressive with seven wins and three draws from 12 games.

The Daggers are one of the league’s in form sides with five wins from their last six games – beating Wealdstone (4-1), Solihull (3-0), Scunthorpe (2-1), and doing the festive double over Maidstone (both 1-0), with the one blemish being a 1-0 home loss to struggling Torquay. Last month, they also progressed in the FA Trophy, but were narrowly beaten in an FA Cup second-round replay by League Two side Gillingham.

Their top scorer this season is Josh Walker, with nine, whilst fellow forward Junior Morias is one behind with eight. Paul McCallum has only netted five this season but is always a dangerman. The club has two former Woking players on their books – midfielder Matt Robinson and defender David Longe-King.
