WOKING v BRENTFORD
Pre-season friendly
3pm on Saturday 2 August 2008
The Bees provide the latest test of the Cards? readiness for the new season,
now only a week away. The performance at Oxford City suggested that things are
now beginning to come together for Kim Grant?s side, as he settles on the group
of players who are in contention for a starting place on 9 August against
Altrincham. Brentford will no doubt give the Woking team a searching
examination.
WOKING
Kim has discarded most of the trialists we?ve seen in recent weeks, signing
one, Patrice Mondon-Konan, and retaining an interest in three others:
midfielders Kunle and Paolo Vernazza and central defender Colin Miles. He has
also said that he doesn?t see Matt Gray, Matt Ruby and Jerome Maledon playing
regular first team football and that they are therefore welcome to try to find
other clubs. It?s a shame to see two former Academy players in particular leave
Kingfield but Kim knows that won?t be the last tough decision that he has to
make if he is to take the Club out of its recent doldrums.
Subject to injuries ? Bradley Quamina, Kunle and Colin Miles were all ruled out
of the Oxford game ? we can expect to see a similar line-up to that on
Wednesday night, although Abdou El Kholti returned in the game against Woking
and Maybury Sports Club on Thursday evening.
BRENTFORD
Bees? manager, Andy Scott, who arrested the slide in the Club?s fortunes when
he took up the reins last season, has made eight new signings over the summer.
They include striker Charlie MacDonald from Southend United but whom Conference
fans will remember better from his days at Crawley and Gravesend and
Northfleet/Ebbsfleet United. The Bees? squad also includes another familiar
ex-Conference star in the shape of former Dagger, Glenn Poole, who was
Brentford?s top scorer last season.
Brentford seem to be on good form in their pre-season friendlies, with recent
comfortable wins at Staines Town and Hampton and Richmond.
Brentford begin their League 2 season next Saturday with a trip to Bury.
